2 Day Mammal Taxidermy Course

Join Becky at Taxtiles in Stroud, Gloucestershire, for a hands-on two-day weekend introduction to mammal taxidermy, mounting a grey squirrel you can take home. Designed for complete beginners, the course is limited to just two people, offering a relaxed and personalised learning experience with guidance from start to finish.

Over the two days, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of mammal taxidermy, including skin preparation, fleshing, cleaning, creating the basic form, positioning and mounting. Becky will also explain the processes of pickling and tanning, as well as the methylated spirits method used for the purpose of the course. You’ll learn about the tools, materials and techniques used throughout the mounting process, working with ethically sourced specimens.

The course is relaxed and informal, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, get hands-on experience and learn at your own pace. No previous taxidermy experience is required, just an interest in the craft and a willingness to get stuck in!

Please note: This is an introductory, hands-on course involving dead animals, including skinning, fleshing, cleaning and handling animal tissues. There may be blood, gore and strong smells, so please consider whether you are comfortable with this before booking. The focus is on learning the techniques and gaining practical experience rather than producing a perfect finished mount. Every specimen is different, and taxidermy is a skill that takes time and practice to master.

2 Day Bird Taxidermy Course

Join Becky at Taxtiles in Stroud, Gloucestershire, for a hands-on two-day weekend introduction to bird taxidermy, mounting a jackdaw you can take home. Designed for complete beginners, the course is limited to just two people, offering a relaxed and personalised learning experience with guidance from start to finish.

Over the two days, you’ll be introduced to skin preparation, cleaning and preserving the skin, wiring, creating the basic form, setting the bird and bringing it together into a finished mount. Becky will talk you through the tools, materials and techniques used throughout the process, as well as the practical considerations involved in working with ethically sourced specimens.

The course is relaxed and informal, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, get hands-on experience and learn at your own pace. No previous taxidermy experience is required, just an interest in the craft and a willingness to get stuck in!
